Our poll with Electoral Calculus, for the Daily Telegraph today, asked a nationally representative sample of 2,147 GB Adults: If there were a Conservative leadership election, which of these Conservative MPs would be your preferred choice to be the new leader of the Conservative party?

53% chose “I don’t know”, while a further 12% selected “Prefer not to say”. Removing these and adjusting the percentages, the results were as follows:

Some other candidate: 40%
Rishi Sunak: 17%
Jeremy Hunt: 10%
Sajid Javid: 8.4%
Liz Truss: 6.3%
Michael Gove: 5.9%
Ben Wallace: 4.5%
Penny Mordaunt: 3.8%
Tom Tugendhat: 3.2%

The results among 2019 Conservative voters, similarly adjusted, show more support for Rishi Sunak, Michael Gove and Liz Truss, but there is still no clear consensus:

Some other candidate: 27%
Rishi Sunak: 25%
Michael Gove: 11.9%
Liz Truss: 11.2%
Jeremy Hunt: 9%
Sajid Javid: 5.8%
Ben Wallace: 6.1%
Penny Mordaunt: 3.6%
Tom Tugendhat: 1%
