Drugs polling
Find Out Now surveyed a representative sample of 1,000 GB adults about drugs policy on 1st May for Mev Brown. Full questionnaire, results and data tables can be found below:
Home Office research estimates 70% of shoplifting is committed to fund drug addiction. While it is illegal to manufacture, supply or possess illegal drugs, it is not an offence to simply be under their influence. One report (from the Social Market Foundation) found that the economic and social cost of drug addiction in Scotland alone was almost £6 billion a year.
Thinking of the above, to what extent do you agree or disagree with the following statements?
- Current drugs policy has failed (65% agree, 6% disagree)
- The law should be enhanced to increase conviction rates, and make it an offence to be under the influence of illegal drugs (50% agree, 25% disagree)
- Those sentenced for being under the influence of illegal drugs would be required to spend a period of time in a closed rehabilitation community, where residents get the treatment they need (61% agree, 12% disagree)
- I would change how I’m planning to vote to support a party backing these reforms (22% agree, 26% disagree)
