Find Out Now had a day out at the cricket. It wasn’t the most astonishing game, but there have been many of them this summer. Curious, we wondered who cricket fans think is the best England captain ever.

First, we asked people – more than 10,000, it turned out – to say, “On a scale of 1-5, how much do you follow cricket?” Those who answered 5 – the most engaged in cricket – were then asked: Who is the best England cricket captain ever?

Stokes, who captains the Test side but not the one-day side, we should note, came top with 27% of the vote. Mike Brearley was second, followed by Michael Vaughan and Andrew Strauss.
