Parents of 16 to 17 year old children

  • Less than 4 in 10 (37%) say their child keeps up with what is happening in the news, politics and current affairs
  • Over three quarters (76%) say their child primarily gets their information about politics and current affairs from social media, like TikTok, Instagram or Snapchat. Only 2% said “newspapers”
  • Less than 4 in 10 (37%) say they support the Government plan to give vote to 16 and 17 year olds
  • Only a third (35%) say their child would be ready to vote in a general election. Outright majority says their child is not
  • When asked how they think their child would vote, once excluding ‘Don’t know’ and ‘Would not vote’, the result is a dead-even split between Reform and Labour
  • Asked about their child’s opinion on various issues:
    • 3 to 1 agree that immigration too high
    • 2 to 1 disagree that benefits too high
    • Plurality agree (42% vs 24%) that there should be death penalty

Parents of 12 year old children

  • 2 to 1 support idea of giving vote to 16 and 17 year olds (i.e. that their child in 4 years could vote)
  • Only 4 in 10 (42%) say their child shows interest in the news, politics and current affairs
  • When asked how they think their child would vote (if election held tomorrow), most don’t know, but Labour comes first followed closely by Green party
